News: Campaign to Designate the Cumberland Road, America's first federally funded road and the wellspring of the National Road, the Cumberland National Road.

The year 1811 is the bicentennial of the start of construction on America's first federally funded road, the Cumberland Road. The importance of the Road to America's growth gained it the name The National Road.
Two hundred years later, the original name has become an unfamiliar part of the past. The mission of this campaign is to restore and preserve of the legacy of the Cumberland Road.
By designating the original road from Cumberland, MD to Vandalia, IL as The Cumberland National Road, the heritage of one of America's most important early roads will recognized.

To support this campaign, please contact Steve/Cumberland National Road (.org)
